About Us

 — ABOUT US

Two gardeners. One belief.

We're Victoria and Pieter - herbalists, botanists, and lifelong gardeners based in Hertfordshire. Between us we bring decades of hands-on experience, formal training in Western herbal medicine, and a genuine, slightly obsessive love of plants. Our own physic garden has featured as part of the National Garden Scheme for several years. We know what a cared-for garden feels like, and what it takes to get there.

We started The Living Garden Co. because we kept seeing beautiful, established gardens being ripped out and started from scratch, when all they needed was a little knowledge, some patience and someone who understood what was already growing there. We work with nature, not against it. And we'd love to do the same for your garden.

Our Approach

 — OUR APPROACH

We listen to your garden first.

Every garden has a history. Roots that go back years. Plants that have found their way in on their own. Structure that's been slowly building beneath the surface. Before we suggest a single change, we walk your space with you, asking questions, identifying what's growing and understanding what you love about it.

We believe the best gardens aren't designed from scratch - they're revealed. Whether you want wildlife-friendly borders, a productive herb patch, a wilder meadow corner or simply a space that's easier to manage and more joyful to be in, we'll find the approach that honours what's already there and takes it somewhere better.

 — OUR SERVICES

Thoughtful help for real gardens.

We offer three ways to work together — from a planning conversation right through to hands-on maintenance. Mix and match, or start small and see how it feels.

Our Services

Garden Design
& Planning

Not sure what your garden could be? We'll spend time with you — walking the space, talking through what you have, what you love and what's not working. We bring botanical knowledge, planting ideas and honest advice about what will thrive in your conditions.

You'll come away with clear direction: which plants to keep, which to move, what to introduce, and how to do it in stages that suit your budget and time. No grand masterplans — just practical, achievable ideas rooted in how gardens actually grow.

Garden Revamp

& Renovation

Your garden has good bones — it just needs some help. We work with what's already there, making considered changes that neaten things up while making the space wilder, more seasonal and friendlier to wildlife. Think less hard landscaping, more living structure.

We're particularly good at finding the hidden potential in overgrown or neglected spaces — the self-seeded treasures, the shrubs worth rescuing, the corners just waiting for the right plant. Everything we introduce is chosen for year-round interest, pollinators and low maintenance.

Garden
Maintenance

Sometimes a garden just needs a pair of knowledgeable hands. Whether it's a one-off tidy before an open day, seasonal cut-backs and pruning, or regular help keeping things in good order — we're here for that too.

Unlike general gardening services, we bring a botanical eye to maintenance work. We know which seedheads to leave for the birds, which 'weeds' are worth keeping, and how to prune in a way that encourages rather than just reduces. Your garden will be tidier — and healthier for it.

 — OUR WORK

Gardens we've loved working on.

A few spaces we've helped transform -  from overgrown to thriving, from tired to wild. We'll add more as the seasons go on.
